Founder & Program Director

Founder of A Mom's Peace, Kara is a mom to six children and four heavenly souls. Upon experiencing the loss of her seventh child, Kara quickly discovered there was not a plan set up for the burial of the unborn. She felt a calling to create a program. Encouraged by her friends and family, she visited with church leaders, funeral homes, cemeteries and hospital staff to create options and plans for families experiencing the loss of a miscarried or stillborn baby. She has since established locations for burial, lowered costs, patient awareness, acknowledgement and remembrance programs, and most of all, a process that aligns with Catholic Church teaching. She continues to explore new options and locations, and is regularly communicating with like-minded organizations.
COLLEEN SULLIVAN CommunicationS and Development Director Upon losing her first unborn child in 2015, Colleen would not have been able to lay her baby's remains to rest without the intercession of A Mom's Peace. Knowing firsthand the power and importance of this apostolate, she feels privileged to serve using her background in public relations to build a community that supports fellow moms in need. She and her husband are thankful for their three beautiful children and five heavenly souls. |
DEACON GERARD MARIE ANTHONY spiritual director As a deacon at St. Timothy's Catholic Church, Deacon Gerard-Marie is honored to be a part of A Mom's Peace and prays he is an icon of hope and Christ's love for families who have lost our littlest brothers in sisters created by God's love. He helps with burial services and other spiritual supports for our organization. |
DR. SABINE HEISMAN THERAPEUTIC DIRECTOR As a clinical psychologist and a mother of miscarried twins, Dr. Heisman understands first hand the trauma and psychological impact of grief. She works to support the families of A Mom's Peace by facilitating conferences and sessions of reflection to help families navigate their journey of loss. She also helps with the referral process for therapeutic intervention for families who need extended help to process their grief. She and her husband are grateful for their earthly son and their twins in heaven. . |
Diane Paulitz, JD memorial coordinator Diane discovered A Mom’s Peace with her 4th and most recent loss, Mary Michael Majella. God gives us experiences and people, sometimes for a very short time, that weave the beautiful tapestry of our lives. From graduating law school with her first newborn to becoming a homeschooling Mom with 7 children, God led her on many unexpected journeys. Should your journey, unexpectedly, lead you to A Mom’s Peace, she is honored to help you memorialize the precious life of your baby, who has left an indelible mark on your hearts and lives. Renata Crispo Himpler photographer Renata is a birth and family photographer in the northern Virginia area. She offers her talents to A Mom’s Peace by capturing images of funeral services for children lost in miscarriage and stillbirth as momentos for families. |
Kelsey Heller Flower coordinator Kelsey Heller encountered A Mom's Peace after she and her husband lost their son in May 2021. After their loss they spent time in their cut flower garden with their 2 boys. When the abundance of flowers grew, they knew they wanted to share them with the local community. They were so excited to share their flowers starting in 2022 with A Mom's Peace and the local community through their business Fiat Gardens. Kelsey attributes much of her healing to her days spent in the garden with the flowers God created and knows this healing can be experienced by others. "Those who sow in tears, will reap rejoicing." Psalm 126 Melody French Keepsake coordinator Melody and her husband Bill have 7 children, and 2 babies in heaven. Melody started knitting blankets for A Mom's Peace in 2015, in memory of her miscarried son Micah. In 2018, Melody and Bill buried Asher with A Mom's Peace. Melody says she is blessed to have a way to reach out and comfort others with the comfort and peace she has received from the Lord and through this Apostolate. Melody’s team includes those that knit, crochet and sew. A Mom's Peace is always looking for people willing to share their talents. Send Melody an email if interested. We are grateful for the additional support provided by Holy Sews. Holy Sews |
Mary Beth Balint event COORDINATOR Mary Beth and her husband, Mike, have six children and two beautiful babies in heaven. She felt called to help Kara as A Mom's Peace started to grow. Mary Beth has assisted with administrative duties and communications and currently serves as an Event Coordinator. She feels blessed and grateful for the opportunity to serve families and their babies with dignity and love. Evelyn Gonzalez SPANISH COORDINATOR Evelyn began serving families with A Mom's Peace after having witnessed several of her friends call on the apostolate to inter their own babies. She would arrive with the most beautiful handmade floral arrangements. It wasn't long before she graciously offered her floral talent and translating services to A Mom's Peace also serving as our Spanish Coordinator. We are delighted to have Evelyn serve our families in memory of her baby Erick Javier. |
